Russi Taylor, the actress who gave voice for the popular Disney animation character Minnie Mouse for over 30 years has passed away. Died in Glendale, California, the actress was at 75.
Russi started to give voice as Minnie Mouse in 1986. The character was the joyous partner of the main character of the series Micky Mouse. The duo characters are considered as one of the most popular comic characters in history.
Russi Taylor has also provided her voice for some other comic characters too like The Simpsons.
Interestingly, in personal life Russi Taylor got married with Wayne Allwine, who voice acted for Minnie Mouse’s on-screen partner Micky Mouse, just like the cast line of the series. After a happy married life with Russi, Wayne Allwine passed away in 2009.
Disney’s chief executive and chairman Bob Iger expressed his grief condolence and paid tribute to Russi Taylor. In a statement released on Saturday, Bob Iger said “For more than 30 years, Minnie and russi worked together to erntertain millions around the world – a partnership that made minnie a global icon and russia a Disney Legend beloved by fans everywhere.”
Russi Taylor was born on May 4, 1944 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. She gave audition for playing the character Minnie in 1986. And later was picked from total 200 applicants running for the role.
Once in an interview, Russi remembered her visit in Disneyland as a girl. There she met Walt Disney, the great founder of Disney Productions.
Russi recalled that Walt Disney asked her what Russi would like to be when she grow up. Russi replied that she want to work for Walt Disney himself. Russi then commented in the interview, “Okay! And now i do!”
It can be noted specially that during the beginning of the Micky Mouse series in 1928, Walt Disney himself provided voice for both characters Micky and Minnie. He performed as Micky Mouse for altogether 30 years in two phases and only one year (the very first year) as Minnie Mouse.
Russi Taylor married the Micky Mouse voice Wayne Allwine in 1991. The couple remained together until Wayne’s death in 2009.
Russi was declared ‘Disney Legend’ in 2008, the honorary title introduced by Disney Productions in 80’s to honor the people contributed to carry and spread Disney’s eminence.
Before Russi Taylor, artists including Marcellite (30’s), Thelma Boradman (40’s) and Ruth Clifford (40’s and 50’s) has lent their voices for Minnie Mouse.
Beside the popular Disney character, Russi Taylor has worked for some other animation series including Talespin, The Little Mermaid, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command and Kim Possible.
